KARYN BURNS IS HOLDING A WOMEN ONLY PRO AM

KARYN BURNS - CLICK TO ENLARGE
PGA professional Karyn Burns of Mearns Castle Golf Academy (pictured above) is organising an all-women pro-am on August 21 at the exclusive venue of the Fidra Course at Archerfield Links Golf Club.
There will be 10 teams consisting of 10 Scottish lady professionals, including the seven who are currently members of the Ladies European Tour, and 30 lady amateurs.
"There are still a few team spots available," says Karyn. "I believe this is this first event of its kind in Scotland although I believe that Jane Connachan held a ladies' pro-am at some point.
"The 10 professionals are likely to Karyn Dallas, Heather MacRae and myself, who are PGA professionals, and from the Ladies European Tour: Krystle Caithness, Pamela Feggans, Lynn Kenny, Vikki Laing, Clare Queen, Michele Thomson and Jenna Wilson."
Kathryn Imrie may get involved if home from USA.
The price per team of three amateurs is £495 which is inclusive of morning rolls/tea on arrival, a short clinic/Q&A session, the 18-hole competition followed by a three-course dinner and viewing of the Solheim Cup match which starts that day.
If you break that down to a cost per individual, it works out at £165 a head.
Are there any husbands/partners/boy friends of lady amateur golfers out there who might like to give their loved ones a treat by buying them a place on a team for what is certainly going to be a day to remember?
Overnight stays can be arranged at an additional cost. More information is available from and entries can be made to Karyn Burns, PGA (AA) Professional by emailing Email: karynburns@yahoo.com or Mobile: 07720 442492.

County Rosebowl Results --- Holder Gillian into Semi Finals

Gillian McGinlay (Cochrane Castle) the 2006 and 2008 winner of the County Rosebowl was in superb form today in her tie against Morag Turner (Kilmacolm). In a very close encounter the match went right down to the last green with Gillian winning 1 up. In Morags words "It was a very close match." "We were all square going down the 18th and basically I made a muck up of it and she played it well."
"It was thoroughly enjoyable match with nice weather and good company - somebody had to win and it was Gillian!! ---- Gillian's putting was superb. She never 3 putted once!! If she did 2 putt the first one was so good that it was always a "gimmie".

HAVE YOU ENTERED THE AUGUST MEDAL

Yet another reminder for you all regarding the next Medal. The August Medal is being held at Greenock on Wednesday 5th August. Closing date for this competition is 15th July to June Lockhart (please enclose s.a.e.). The time we have reserved for this competition is 9.30-11.30 a.m. Apparently there should have been a gents medal first thing in the morning but they have delayed it until 11.30 a.m. so I hope you will support this competition and at least we have a decent number playing. If we have the same good weather as we have been having the views from Greenock are superb and so, if you have not played Greenock before, it is well worth a visit.
Hope to see many of you on 5th August.
Regards Morag Turner

Jennifer Mack has a good Second round at the Scottish Seniors

Jennifer Mack - Click to enlarge
Jennifer Mack (Haggs Castle) was the best Renfrewshire player at the Scottish Senior Championships over the Montgomerie Course at Kinross today. However, her 78 --- 3 over the CSS OF 75 just was not enough to make the cut after a disappointing 1st round. She was seen to be smiling later on though, when she won the most improved player award on the second day, in another side competition with your webmaster and her golfing housemates !!
