In the Winter Foursomes Semi-Final (all Whitecraigs) on Friday 19th February the pensioner pairing of Immediate Past Captain Christeen Finlayson and Committee Member Sheila Robson conquered the ice and mist as well as their youthful opponents, Lorna Howie and Hazel Hamilton, by 2/1 on the 17th green.

The approach shots and putting on the temporary greens proved difficult for both teams. However, everyone was hitting the ball out of sight with visibility down to approximately 50 yards!

SLGA SQUAD WINTER TRAINING IN SPAIN

From the SLGA Website

National Squad players Renfrewshire's Megan Briggs, Eilidh Briggs and Alyson McKechin plus Gillian Monteith, Laura Murray, Gabrielle Macdonald, Kelsey Macdonald, Jane Turner, Rachael Watton and Rebecca Wilson have just returned from Desert Springs, Spain after attending a Warm weather training camp. The squad were fortunate to be accompanied by the Ricoh Women’s British Open winner, Catriona Matthew, who played and trained as part of the squad. This provided an excellent opportunity for our young players to gain from her experience. Catriona gave the girls great encouragement. The girls were extremely excited about Catriona travelling with them, something they will never forget.

Also, travelling with the squad were SLGA National Coach, Kevin Craggs, sportscotland Institute of Sport physiotherapist, Karen Young and SLGA Performance Director, Renfrewshire Past Captain Beth Paterson.
Desert Springs gave the players a chance to train in good conditions in preparation for the forthcoming season. The Golf Union of Wales was in Desert Springs at the same time and this gave the squad a chance to play a competitive match, which the Welsh won. The Welsh team had Walker Cup Captain and four times Walker Cup player, Nigel Edwards playing for them.

We are very grateful to our funding partners; the R & A and sportscotland who helped to fund this trip.

Squad Training at Playsport and an Offer to all Renfrewshire County Members

The County training Squads had their first winter training session at Playsport last Sunday and another this Sunday coming with Lesley MacKay putting the squad through their paces!
The facilities are so good that Captain Trish thought we should encourage our ordinary members to make use of them.

The deal is this:- When a member buys a card for the range (starting from £20 up) they will receive an extra 25% added on ie. to the value of £25.

Another offer to Renfrewshire members is-

5x45minute lessons for £110.00 (includes balls and video analysis). This is the price Lesley usually offers for 5 x 30mins lessons and as a 30 minute lesson is £27.50 it offers a good saving to the members.

If you don't want a block then the winter offer is still £30 for a 45 minute lesson (which includes video analysis and balls for the lesson)
