Ruth Miller and Lesley Mackey -- Click to enlarge
The Renfrewshire County Team Coach Lesley Mackay from Playsport Golf in East Kilbride gave some GOLF TIPS at a social evening last night at a SNOWY Kilmacolm Golf Club.

Kilmacolm Captain Liz Crichton introduced Lesley to the large group that were there including some Ranfurly Castle members.

One of the "TIPS" was on Posture and as you can see from the picture on the RHS that Kilmacolm's Ruth Mitchell was pretty good at standing on a plank of wood

County Captain Trish was unable to attend as she had left on Sunday to go to THE MASTERS with husband Colin --- Must be better weather there than we are getting here!!! Have a great time Trish --- from all of us --- Remember to wear PINK so we can look out for you when the tournament begins

SCOTTISH UNIVERSITIES CHAMPIONSHIPS CUT TO 54 HOLES DUE TO SNOW AT LOSSIEMOUTH

Yesterday! Rain, sleet, snow, wind, hail, fire, brimstone - everything but sunshine. Moray Old got its teeth into the golfers and the competition was restricted to 54 holes as a result.
In the Ladies event, Welsh international Gemma Bradbury (St Andrews) who had led going into today by ten shots shot an excellent 76 (4 over par) in the conditions and extended her lead to 16 shots at the end.
Jane Turner (RGU) and Susan Jackson (Edinburgh) - both previous SUS Order of Merit event winners - were unable to close the gap in the tricky conditions but battled on valiantly to share second place. Renfrewshires's Megan Briggs (Kilmacolm) was 4th.
LEADING WOMEN'S FINAL TOTALS
Gemma Bradbury (St Andrews) 76 + 69 + 76 = 221
Susan Jackson (Edinburgh) 81 + 75 + 81 = 237
Jane Turner (RGU) 78 + 77 + 82 = 237
Megan Briggs (Strathclyde) 89 + 72 + 79 = 240
Emma Fairnie (Edinburgh) 84 + 80 + 83 = 247

County Foursomes

The County Foursomes is being held at Cochrane Castle on Wednesday 28th April. The closing date for this is Monday 12th April. So get your partners organised and enter before that date. If you do not have a partner you can still enter. June Lockhart is the Supervisor for this competition so if you have any queries please contact her.

Spring Meeting

The Spring Meeting is being held at Cowglen on Thursday 6th May. The closing date for this is Monday 19th April. The Supervisor for this competition is Sheila Robson.

Let us hope we get good weather for our competitions this year. If you are anything like myself, I think a lot of people have not played very much over the winter months due to all the bad weather but hopefully it is changing now!

Handicap Certificate

Trish has taken advice from the SLGA that handicap certificates are required for County competitions. So please bring a current handicap certificate with you to the competitions. Thanks.

Look forward to seeing you.

Morag Turner

PAST CAPTAIN CHRISTEEN AND COMMITTEE MEMBER SHEILA ROBSON ARE THE 2010 WINTER FOUSOMES WINNERS

SHEILA ROBSON AND CHRISTEEN FINLAYSON - CLICK TO ENLARGE Sheila and Christeen after their win -- Click to enlarge

At 10am this morning, on a cold, wet and blustery day at Eastwood Golf Club, Christeen Finlayson and Sheila Robson teed off against Sandra Gilchrist and her daughter, Jennifer Chuwen to contest the final of the RLCGA Winter Foursomes.

The first 2 holes were won by Christeen and Sheila and they kept ahead eventually going 3 up after 7 holes. Sandra and Jenny, who were giving 3 shots, played steadily to get back to 1 down at the turn but Christeen and Sheila stood on the 16th tee 2up with 3 to go but the Gilchrist duo managed to square the match on the 18th tee.

With a nail biting finish they halved the last hole so up the 19th they went with Christeen and Sheila being the victors.

Congratulations to them and well played all of them! The conditions were pretty awful and they did well to keep their concentration in the wind and the rain.
We are very grateful to Eastwood Golf Club for giving us the courtesy of their course and for their kind hospitality.

An all Whitecraigs Winter Foursomes Final

The Whitecraigs partnership of Sandra Gilchrist and Jennifer Chuwen beat Denise Cowan and Jackie MacDonald on Wednesday in the semi final of the Winter Foursomes.

The semi-final should have been played at Whitecraigs Golf Course. However, Whitecraigs is still under snow and Denise and Jackie who are now members of Ranfurly Castle could not even offer to play over their Home Course due to it also being snowbound!!!

Courtesy was kindly given by Cowglen Golf Club and the match was able to be played.

Sandra and Jennifer now play Past Captain Christeen Finlayson and Sheila Robson in the all Whitecraigs Final which will be arranged on a neutral course.
