FIONA AND EVY WIN THROUGH TO THE WINTER FOURSOMES FINAL

Gillian Kyle and Audrey Mackenzie (East Renfrewshire) played Evy MacGregor and Fiona Roger (Ranfurly Castle) in the semi final of the winter foursomes today.
The tie was played over Ranfurly Castle in what they could only describe as very cold, very wet and seriously windy conditions. Evy and Fiona took an early 3up lead only to be pegged back to all square after 8 holes.
Gillian and Audrey had an unfortunate ‘struggle’ with the cliff at the 9th and after a good 4 at the 10th hole Evy and Fiona went 2up and were able to cling on to their lead and eventually closed out the match at the 16th.
As you can imagine, it was not a day for much chat on the course – more a matter of survival – however the chat flowed in the clubhouse over hot coffee and bacon and egg rolls.

The other semi final game is between  Birgit Clark and Marilyn Muir (Old Ranfurly)  against Sandra Gilchrist and Gillian Gibson (Whitecraigs)

NEW COMPETITION DURING THE COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP .....

With the improvement in the weather, hopefully everyone is now thinking about the forthcoming golf season. Online entry  is now open for the first 3 competitions-Championship, Foursomes and Spring Meeting.

A new handicap matchplay competition has been added, to be played alongside the Championship at East Renfrewshire. The top 16 SCRATCH scores will qualify for the Championship as before, then the best 4 NETT scores (who have not qualified for the Scratch competition) will be allocated a place in the Handicap matchplay competition. The semifinal will be played on Thursday afternoon, then the final on Friday morning. We are hoping this additional competition will encourage more ladies to enter the Championship and be more involved for the 3 days.

Can I remind you that we have an evening ballot for the Spring Meeting at Paisley which is for those working girls who cannot play during the day. It will be "first come, first served" as there are only 3 tee off times.

BEETLE DRIVE SUCCESS - OVER £1,300 RAISED FOR COUNTY FUNDS

Beetle drive Winner Donna Jackson with Captain Gillian Kyle - Photo courtesy of Fiona Armour
A super afternoon was had by the 87 ladies at Ralston Golf Club yesterday (7th February) . What better way to spend a very wet, Sunday afternoon!
The stalls of tablet, jewellery, scarves and handbags were available for viewing and purchasing before we settled down to the games ahead.
A break for coffee and cake allowed time for more shopping and to add bids to the silent auction. Thanks go to Cameron Kyle (Calder Millerfield) , Isabell Donnelly and Jennifer Mack who donated the golf at Gleneagles, Dunaverty and Troon Portland respectively.
The raffle had an excellent variety of bottles, golf lessons, golf balls, chocolates etc and hopefully most ladies went home with a prize. Our thanks go to the Renfrewshire Pros and all others who donated so generously.
After 6 noisy games of “Beetle”, the overall winner was Donna Jackson with 60 points with Honorary President Wendy Cameron, a close runner up.
The main aim was to raise money for County funds as well as catch up with friends we haven’t seen over the winter. I’m delighted to announce that we made just over £1300 yesterday. A great achievement.
Thank you to EVERYONE who helped, donated or attended.
Looking forward to seeing you all when the season begins.

Left raffle prizes.

A couple of raffle prizes were left on the hall table at Ralston GC yesterday. The SLGA Centenary book and a wine bag with a bottle and selfie stick! I’m thinking the ladies popped the bags down, went to the cloakroom then left leaving them there.

Also, another 4 prizes were unclaimed – orange, yellow, pink and buff tickets on them. If unclaimed, I will save them for a raffle later on in the season.
