Morag Turner and Beatrice Orr are the 2009 Winter Foursomes Champions

Mary Hardie, Morag Turner, Beatrice Orr and Sheila Gray -- Click to enlarge
The Winter Foursomes Final was played today at Cathcart Castle Golf Club between Morag Turner and Beatrice Orr (Kilmacolm) against the holders
Mary Hardie and Sheila Gray (Ranfurly Castle).
It was remarkable that the final was able to take place today after such dreadful weather over the weekend. The course was very wet underfoot but with full greens in operation and preferred lies the play was very good and a tight match ensued.
The Ranfurly Castle pair went 2 up after 2 holes. Morag and Beatrice got it back to being 1 down and then Mary Hardie sank a long putt at the 8th to go back to being 2up. A brilliant shot in by Beatrice and a single putt at the 9th meant the Kilmacolm pairing were back to 1 down at the turn.
Beatrice and Morag then won the 11th to square the match and went 1 up at the 12th while playing in a sharp hailstorm
The short 13th up the hill was won by the Ranfurly Castle pairing with Sheila sinking a very good putt for par. The 14th and 15th were then won by Mary and Sheila to go 2 up and with a great shot to the short 16th looked as if they were on course to take the title. The Kilmacolm duo were just off the green -- Morag chipped on to about 4 feet, the Ranfurly Castle pair 3 putted and Beatrice sank her putt to go back to 1 down. The 17th was halved and Morag and Beatrice won the 18th to take the match up the 19th which they were able to win when the Ranfurly Castle's shot went into a very wet sandy bunker which made it difficult to play out accurately.
Well done to the you all on an excellent final and many thanks to those "few" who came out to support.
Many thanks to Graeme Sutherland (Managing Secretary Cathcart Castle) for his help on the day and to the Cathcart Castle for their courtesy of the Course for the final

Maureen Woodhead -- Click to enlarge On the Gillian Kirkwood Website there was an article on Multi - Year Champions
Renfrewshire County team member -- Maureen Woodhead (Skinner) was reading their article about multi-year champions.

Until 2008, when she was defeated in the semi-final, she was Lady Champion at Gourock Golf Club for 15 years consecutively.
"This could be a starting figure for our investigations!!" --- Any advance on 15 years, then?
