NEW MEMBER CLAIR BARCLAY IN WINNING TRI AM TEAM AT ELDERSLIE

Clair, Lesley and Fiona - Photo courtesy of Gillian Kyle

While the weather forecast looked bleak for the Tri-am going ahead today, quite remarkably it turned into a lovely morning with sunshine making an appearance and only one brief shower.

Some raffle prizes were left from the Beetle Drive in January and a fantastic £160 was raised for County funds today. Many thanks for your generosity.

It was certainly wet underfoot at parts but the greens and bunkers were dry so it made for a very pleasant golf day and a nice way to end this years County golf competitions.

15 teams participated with the winners, with a terrific score of 79 stableford points being: - 2 scores out of 3 to count.
Clair Barclay (Kilmacolm)
Fiona Armour (Renfrew)
Lesley Anderson (Caldwell)

Second place with 73 points (BIH) was:
Jennifer Mack (Haggs Castle)
Trish Brown (KIlmacolm)
Jackie McCabe (Elderslie)

Third place with 73 points was:
Linda McDougall (Greenock)
Muriel Young (Old Ranfurly)
Norah Adams (Kilmacolm)

VICE CAPTAIN JUNE WINS THE ERSKINE MEDAL

The well supported field was dramatically reduced to 17 as the wet rainy weather hit Renfrewshire.

Eleven brave ladies ventured out into the rain during the day with the six evening players hitting dry conditions. The course held up well and many of those who played gave very positive feedback regarding its condition despite the weather.

Julie Wilson (Williamwood) won the scratch with a gross 81 and a bih over Gillian Kyle (East Renfrewshire).

June Lockhart (Gleddoch) pictured won Division One with a 75 nett. Julie Wilson (Williamwood) and Denise Cowan (Ranfurly Castle) were in second and third place with a 77 and 78 nett respectively.

Division Two was won by Elaine Robb (Milngavie) with a nett 76 - this was despite Elaine trying to knock herself out in the car park prior to play!!!! Lesley Anderson (Caldwell) and Linda Honeyman (Erskine) were second and third with a nett 79 and 81 respectively.

Many ladies turned up on the day and turned the terrible wet conditions into a positive over coffee and a chat.

JULIE WILSON WINS THE JUNE MEDAL AT KILMACOLM.

Julie Wilson has a clean sweep of gross and nett scores at Kilmacolm.

Julie Wilson
Despite the gloomy weather forecast, only 2 short heavy showers were experienced during the morning session of the June Medal, and conditions were really pleasant. Although the course was in very good condition, the Greenkeeper put most pins in very ‘imaginative positions’ ( !! ), so scoring was not easy.

However star of the day was Julie Wilson (Williamwood) in the evening session with an amazing gross 76 (nett 71), and in the morning session Anita McMillan (Erskine) had a commendable nett 74.

Local player Lynda Bradley and Linda Honeyman (Erskine) both had nett 75s.

NEW GIRLS CHRISTINE AND GILL FROM WILLIAMWOOD WIN THE WINTER FOURSOMES TITLE

On the 1st Tee Williamwood's Christine Leitch and  Gill McLeod

On the 1st Tee Sandra Winter and Norah Adams (Kilmacolm)

The Finalists on the 1st tee at Pollok GC
The 2016/17 Winter  Foursomes Final took place today at Pollok Golf Club between Christine Leitch and Gill McLeod from Williamwood, who were playing in the competition for the 1st time, and Norah Adams and Sandra Winter from Kilmacolm. There was an extremely cold wind but it was dry overhead and the course was in remarkably good condition despite the recent rain and snow.

Norah and Sandra were receiving 9 shots and promptly won the 1st hole with a great 5, net 4.

Williamwood had 2 putts to win the 2nd then a lovely putt from Sandra at the 3rd kept the game level. Kilmacolm were unlucky to find the fairway bunker at the 4th and a 5 was good enough to let Williamwood take the lead.
Chances were lost at the 5th when they both 3 putted but a great 2 at the 6th for Kilmacolm squared the match again.

Kilmacolm struggled all the way up the right hand rough at the 7th and conceded the hole to Willamwood at the green. A tidy chip from Gill and 2 putts was enough to increase their lead to 2up after 8 holes. A half at 9 then a very good half at 10 despite Kilmacolm being in the burn kept the game tight.

Out on the course - with Captain Gillian Kyle

Pollok House in the background

Perhaps the excitement of the half at 10 was too much for the Kilmacolm pair and they conceded the 11th once nearer the green. But determined to keep fighting, Norah played her shot of the day on to the green at the short 12th. Gill had missed the green and Christine then found the bunker so all was looking good for the Kilmacolm pair. However, a magnificent sand save by Willamwood and a 3 putt from Kilmacolm saw the hole halved in 4's! Kilmacolm didn't really recover and lost the next hole to be 4 down with 5 to play. A super 5 was enough to win 1 back but the long 15th with no shots being given was just too much and
Williamwood played the hole very safely to win 4 and 3.
Some Williamwood and Kilmacolm Supporters out on the course - Maura Whyte (Kilmacolm) Gill Unick (Williamwood) and Trish Brown (Kilmacolm)

A big thank you to the spectators who came to support and to Carol McNally for arranging courtesy of the course at the last moment when snow had closed East Renfrewshire.

Grateful thanks to Pollok Golf Club for making us so welcome.

WINTER FOURSOMES QUARTER FINAL RESULT.

Elaine Munn and Gillian Kyle (East Renfrewshire) could not take advantage of their home fixture against Norah Adams and Sandra Winter (Kilmacolm) on Monday. The course was looking great for the time of year and weather lovely. They couldn't really blame the giving of quite a few shots, or the winter greens at the start, as Norah and Sandra played very steadily and scored very well. Net pars were difficult to beat so the home pair found themselves 4 down after 10 but rallied to get back to 2 down after 15. Elaine's putt for birdie at the 16th missed by an inch so the hole was halved in net 4's. With Norah chipping right up to the hole for a certain 4, net 3, the home pair conceded the match. A most enjoyable way to spend a Monday morning!

SHIRLEY IS THE ROSEBOWL CHAMPION FOR 2016

Shirley Back -- 2016 RLCGA Rosebowl Champion
Shirley Back (Gleddoch) and Marion Stewart (Kilmacolm) had a very good battle at East Renfrewshire Golf Club this evening in the final of the Rosebowl. The overhead conditions were perfect and the course in very good condition despite heavy rain earlier in the week.
Marion was getting 6 shots and went 1up after the long par 4 3rd then 2 up after the long par 3 7th as Shirley could not match her net pars.
Shirley got 1 back at the 9th after Marion found a nasty position in the bunker. The scoring on the front 9 was excellent-Shirley out in 4 over par and Marion only 6 over!
Marion got back to 2 up after net pars at 10 and 11 but a spell of poor chipping from her and par golf from Shirley, let Shirley go square at the 13th.
Shirley then found a very firm bunker at the 15th and had to concede the hole. Marion unfortunately found 2 bunkers at the 16th and had to concede that hole!
So all square with 2 to go. Marion then had a meltdown-drove into the burn at 17 and didn't  get on with her 4th shot so conceded the hole as Shirley was nicely on the green.
Another poor drive from Marion found thick rough then her 3rd shot rolled into the burn, making the 18th extra long and with Shirley near the green in 2, Marion admitted defeat allowing Shirley to win the match 2up.

Our thanks go to the caddies Isabell Donnelly and Morag Key for making it a special occasion and to East Renfrewshire for giving us courtesy of the course.

Thanks go to Captain Gillian Kyle for the report and photographs

45 ladies played in today's medal at Caldwell Golf Club . It was a dry and reasonably warm day although the course was playing it's full length and maybe a bit more.

The CSS was 75 and "reduction only" (SSS 72). The adverse scoring was blamed by many on Andy Murray's epic Olympic Gold Medal win in the early hours of this morning ..... or could it simply have been a case of it wasn't wet and windy!!!!

Overall winner was Liz Hale (Caldwell) with a 73 net and Denise Cowan (Ranfurly Castle) won the scratch with a gross 84.

Emma Kennedy

Former junior and newly re-joined county member, Emma Kennedy of Paisley, finished second in both the gross and Division 1 net competitions (Handicap 0 - 12) - well done Emma in your first county competition for some time.
