ALYSON McKECHIN WINS MACKIE BOWL AT GULLANE

Alyson McKechin - The 2012 Mackie Rosebowl Winner -- Courtesy of Gillian Kirkwood
Renfrewshire County Champion Alyson McKechin (Elserslie), joint sixth in the Scottish Under 21 girls championship at Blairgowrie on Friday, returned to winning bowl over the Gullane No 1 course today.
She headed a field of 39 players for the Mackie Bowl 36-hole SLGA Order of Merit tournament by one stroke with rounds of 72 and 75 for 147.
Runners-up, a shot behind were Rachel Walker (Dumfries and County) and Jane Turner (Craigielaw).
Rachel gained second prize with a second-round 71, the best of the day, to Jane's 73.
Fourth place went to Gabrielle Macdonald (Craigielaw) with 150 (75, 75), thanks to an eagle 2 at the par-4 17th hole, holing her second shot with a 52 degree wedge.
It was a typical East Lothian day of wind and sun and threatening clouds scudding by, but never shedding their contents over the course.
The rough was punishing.
Renfrewshire's Eilidh and Megan Briggs finished in 5th and 7th place.

ALYSON MCKECHIN IS ONE OFF THE PACE AFTER ROUND I OF THE SCOTTISH UNDER 21'S

By COLIN FARQUHARSON
Colin@scottishgolfview.com
Teenage Ayrshire prospect Connie Jaffrey set a hot pace in the first round of the Scottish Under-21 girls' open amateur stroke-play golf championship at Blairgowrie Golf Club.
Connie, a member of Troon Ladies, shot a splendid two-under-par 71 (CSS 75) over the difficult Lansdowne course to lead by one stroke from Renfrewshire County Champion Alyson McKechin (Elderslie) with Gabrielle Macdonald (Craigielaw) and Germany-based Rachael Taylor joint third on level par 73.
Jaffrey, second seed in last week's Scottish U18 girls' match-play championship but beaten in the quarter-finals, dropped only one shot, at the 12th. She birdied the long seventh, 16th and 18th in a fine finish.
Alyson McKechin matched the leaders bag of three birdies - at the long seventh, 12th and 13th, but had two bogeys, at the sixth and 10th.
Taylor had the most birdies - five - but she also had five bogeys in an up-and-down round.
Eilidh Briggs (Kilmacolm) had a 2 over par 75 to be not far off the pace

COUNTY ROSEBOWL -- SEMI FINALISTS

Iona Stephen is the last player to make the semi finals of the Rosebowl due to being given a w/o from Nancy MacGadie.
Jennifer Mack (Haggs Castle) and Fiona Roger (Ranfurly Castle) played their County Rosebowl tie yesterday (Wednesday 27th June) at Haggs Castle Golf Club. Mixed golf apparently was played in very still conditions - the first few holes were pretty wet, but they were lucky that the rain stopped for the remainder of the round. The course was great considering the previous nights heavy rain, and the greens were excellent. The rough was heavy and extremely wet. The match was very close with Fiona managing to win at the 19th.
June Irons (Caldwell) and Anne Aitken (Eastwood) played on the 26th June at Caldwell  - Anne was the winner  - sorry no report on this game.
Carol Fell (Ranfurly Castle) and Gillian Kyle (East Renfrewshire) played their County Rosebowl tie on Monday 25th June over Ranfurly Castle in glorious weather conditions.
Gillian who had to give Carol 6 shots found herself 2 down at the turn despite being only 2 over par !! Gillian says that I was to say that my play was "awesome " when I kept slotting putts on the beautiful greens -- (The greens had been "ironed" and were perfect.)
I can't say that my play was as she suggested but yes we had a terrific game and we both enjoyed the outing.

CAROL WHYTE WINS WINDYHILL CHAMPIONSHIP

Tracy Masterton, Carol Whyte, Laura McGeaghy, Ann MacDonald -- Tracy & Ann were caddies.
Windyhill Golf Club held their Club Championship matches today in a mixture of sun and showers. Renfrewshire's Carol Whyte and D&A's Laura McGeachy contested the Ladies Championship in what proved to be a well fought match. Carol started well with pars at the first 3 holes to go 3up. Laura then staged a determined come back bringing the match back to 1 down after 7 but Carol regained her lead to 3 at the turn. Carol birdied the infamous 12th to go 4 up but birdies eluded Laura at 14 & 15 when her putts just shaved the hole. The match ended on 15 with Carol winning 4&3 with a 2 over par score!

 MANY CONGRATULATIONS CAROL
