RENFREWSHIRE JUNIORS WIN THE KENNEDY SALVER

The Winning RLCGA Kennedy Salver Team with Captain Gillian Kyle,
Audrey MacKenzie (Junior Secretary), June Lockhart (Vice Captain)
and President Jennifer Mack
Many congrats go to our Junior Team who won the  West of Scotland Inter-County Kennedy Salver at Loudoun Gowf Club, yesterday --
The team was :
Anna MacKenzie - East Renfrewshire
Heather Mushet - Elderslie
Niamh Kinney - Erskine
Ellie Wilkie - Greenock
Emily Crusher - Eastwood
Sophie Kyle - Whitecraigs

Yesterday at Loudoun Gowf Club our Renfrewshire girls won the Kennedy Salver for the first time since 2010. In a nail-biting finish we pipped Lanarkshire into runner-up spot by half a point.

Determined to go one better than last year's runner-up spot our girls came flying out of the blocks in the morning foursomes. Despite the threatening skies, the girls played sunshine golf, winning all three morning matches!  Heather Mushet & Ellie Wilkie won 3&2, Emily Crusher & Sophie Kyle won 4&3 and then Anna MacKenzie & Niamh Kinney won a tight but crucial match on the 18th to give the girls a commanding if not unassailable lunch-time lead.

With the winning post in their sights the girls started to get a little tight and the afternoon singles proved to be a more challenging proposition. Like the weather the golf was very mixed, but thanks to bright spells by Niamh & Sophie and Emily gaining her point, we reached a total of 6 points, which none of the other teams could match.
For the record the team totals were: Renfrewshire 6 points; Lanarkshire 5.5; Ayrshire 4; and D&A 2.5.

A great team result for the girls, founded on their excellent team foursomes play in the morning, won them the West of Scotland Inter-County competition for the first time since 2010. All of the matches were played in a great spirit and our thanks go to all the girls who competed.

Many thanks to Ayrshire for hosting the competition and to Loudoun Gowf Club both for the courtesy of their course (which was in great condition) and their hospitality. Thank you to everyone who turned up to support the girls with a special mention to Captain Gillian Kyle, Vice Captain June Lockhart and Hon. President Jennifer Mack.

WEST OF SCOTLAND COUNTY JAMBOREE DAY 3 - D&A WIN ON A COUNT BACK

D&A ARE THE INTER COUNTY CHAMPIONS -- AT DOUGLAS PARK GOLF CLUB
The Winning D&A TEAM

D&A lifted the 2016 County Team Championship at Douglas Park Golf Club for the first time today in 9 years. It was a day of eagles and birdies by many of the players to finish the day in an enthralling and exciting finish.
Renfrewshire who needed a halved match with Ayrshire to secure a win could only look on in despair  as young Louise Duncan (West Kilbride) finished with 3 birdies to win on the 18th against Jennifer Rankine (Haggs Castle) who par'd the last 3 holes .
This was followed on by Ayrshire's Debbie Watt having a birdie 2 at the long uphill par 3 15th and then another birdie at the 16th followed by a par 3 at the 17th to beat Renfrewshire Captain and player Gillian Kyle at the 17th.
It was a day of eagles and more birdies by many of the various teams with some notable ones to mention --  Renfrewshire's Megan Briggs having an eagle 3 at the long par 5  8th hole (into the wind), D&A's Lorna McClymont an eagle 3  at the 4th and a great birdie at the last to beat Lanarkshire's Alyson Hendry who had had an eagle 2 at the 11th --- The spectators were well entertained
D&A had 2 wins and one defeat the same as Renfrewshire but won on a count back of match points gained.
D&A Captain Karen Maxwell could not believe it --- CLICK HERE FOR SOME PHOTOS
Many congratulations go to all the team and we wish them well at the County Finals in September in Aboyne.
The 2017 Jamboree will take place at Hamilton Golf Club, Lanarkshire.

On a the 2nd day of the County Jamboree at Douglas Park Golf Club today Renfrewshire put up a very strong fight against Lanarkshire to win and put themselves in strong position for tomorrows final day match against Ayrshire.

Megan lost that match at the 17th and then young Jennifer playing at number 2 lost to a very strong and experienced player Susan Woods.

COUNTDOWN TO THE JAMBOREE.

There is only 1 week to go until the Jamboree- hosted by D&A at Douglas Park Golf Club.

The team have practised hard over the last few months and are ready for the competition and would, as always, appreciate the support of Renfrewshire members, whether it be caddying or just supporting. There are many good players, young and old, so there should be some exciting golf to watch and enjoy. (Please contact Carol McNally if you would like to caddy as she is still short for Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons)
Hillfoot station stops at the golf club so it could be a lovely day out without the stress of driving. Remember to wear your pink!

The action starts on Monday vs D&A at 9.30am with the Foursomes, then at 2.15pm for the Singles matches. The matches on Tuesday are at the same time vs Lanarkshire but earlier on Wednesday vs Ayrshire, the title-holders, at 9am and 1.30pm.

Let's hope the weather is good and that Renfrewshire's golf is the best!

JUNE MEDAL OVER EASTWOOD - GILLIAN, CATHY AND LINDA ARE THE BEST TODAY

From L to R--  All winners - Marion Munro, Jean Irvine, Cathy Morton, Linda Anderson
Gillian Kyle  and Pat Pennel

"Our June medal was played at Eastwood Golf Club on Tuesday, 7th June 2016.  It was another very warm day with a total of 26 ladies playing in the morning ballot.  Due to this fantastic spell of weather we've been having everyone found Eastwood very challenging with some interesting bounces from tee shots through to stopping the ball when hitting into the green.  All in all everyone enjoyed their game and the CSS finished at 73 (SSS 72).
The scratch winner was Gillian Kyle with a 78.

Handicap winners were:

Muriel Young
Medal Final Winner
Handicap Scratch - 12
Cathy Morton (Eastwood) : 84 - 11 = 73
Gillian Kyle (East Renfrewshire) : 78 - 3 = 75
Marion Munro (Ranfurly Castle) : 88 - 12 = 76

Handicap 13+
Linda Anderson (Erskine) : 98 - 24 = 74
Pat Pennel (Ranfurly Castle) : 99 - 24 = 75
Jean Irvine (Ranfurly Castle) : 96 - 21 = 75

The final of the 2015 Medal winners was also played today and this was won by Muriel Young of Old Ranfurly with a net 76.  Fiona Roger and Carol Fell (both Ranfurly Castle) were 2nd and 3rd respectively.

Sadly the evening element of the competition had to be cancelled with only one competitor remaining in the ballot.  It has been agreed that a committee member will now either play or be available to mark a card for the evening ballot in the July Medal at Haggs Castle.

Well done to all the winners at Eastwood."
