Jean at the 2015 RLCGA AGM
It is with deep sadness that, after bravely facing up to her illness over the last few years, we inform you of the death of Jean Smith (Cathcart Castle).
Jean was a very loyal and hard working member of the County, having acted as Membership Secretary for several years. She was also very active in her own Club and in much of the organisation of the 75th Greenlees Anniversary Celebrations. Jean was a lovely lady to deal with, and she will be very sadly missed by all in Renfrewshire County.

June Lockhart (Captain)

Jean joined RLCGA in 2006. After she joined the committee and it had been decided to split the tasks of the Secretary and create a Membership Secretary, I immediately thought of Jean and she she took on this role with great enthusiasm in 2009. Her records were immaculate.
Having worked previously with Jean when she was a member of Bonnyton and Lady Captain, I was very happy to work along side her especially when it came to hand over all her records as RLCGA transferred their data to Club V1.
By this time Jean's health stopped her from continuing an active interest in the County but I know she always had a great love of the game of golf and when she could no longer play, she was always interested to know what was going on

When the 75th Greenlees Trophy Anniversary celebrations were held at Cathcart Castle on the 19th September 2015 and organised by Sheila Orr and the ladies at Cathcart Castle it is certainly a day that I remember with much fun and laughter.

Jean who was the Ladies handicap Secretary at Cathcart Castle and RLCGA Membership Secretary at that time  was not well enough to attend the celebrations that day which was sad considering the time and effort that she and her husband and put into producing a wonderful brochure for the day which I still have as a keepsake.    CLICK HERE TO READ MORE

In happier days back in 2009 she enjoyed the County Centenary Celebrations over Pollok GC where of course this years County Championship took place.

As you have all said Jean was heavily involved in golf.
She thoroughly enjoyed welcoming the players from all County Clubs on the 75th Greenlees Anniversary and the icing on the cake was we won the 3rd Division that season in 2015 and Jean played her part in that.
Jean was a lovely lady and we will all miss her.

Sheila Orr (Cathcart Castle)
