Trish Brown (Captain), Maureen Mitchell (Junior Secretary) Jennifer Mack and Carol Fell all attended the meeting
An excellent AGM was run by the LGU with Gillian Kirkwood (Chairman) , Jane Brown (Finance Director) and Shona Malcom (CEO) all giving their reports.
Mrs Jill Edwards MBE was appointed as the new President from the retiring President Maureen Lockett.
Janet Wake leaves the Council and Board and Lorna Bennett takes over the vacancy.
At the close of the meeting Alison Nicholas,(pictured above with Trish) Captain of the 2011 GB&I Solheim Cup team gave a fantastic insight into the problems tears and joys of being a Captain. The audience all enjoyed her humour and there was much laughter.

LGU DINNER AT THE HOLIDAY INN IN GLASGOW
Aileen, Beth, Jen, Fiona and Carol - Click to enlarge |
The LGU dinner was held last night Friday 25th February at the Holiday Inn in West Nile Street Glasgow. Aileen Wilson, Beth Paterson, Fiona Roger, Carol Fell and Jennifer Mack were all there.
Guests at the dinner were Tegwen Matthews who has been appointed as the captain of Great Britain and Ireland's 2012 Curtis Cup team and Alison Nicholas who won the 1987 Weetabix Ladies British Open at St Mellion.
The highlight of Alison's career was when she was crowned 1997 US Open Champion when she held off golfing legend Nancy Lopez to win her first major. Following this success Alison was awarded the MBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours List for services to women's golf.
Representing Europe in the Solheim Cup six times was memorable for Alison especially being on three victorious teams in 1992, 2000 and as Vice Captain in 2003.
She was the Solheim Cup European Team Captain for 2009 and is the Team Captain for 2011 European Solheim Cup with Ladies European Tour members Annika Sorenstam and Joanne Morley who have been selected as her vice-captains. This years Solheim Cup is to be played in Ireland at Killeen Castle -- To read more CLICK HERE

VICE CAPTAIN MAUREEN AT PLAYSPORT WITH THE SENIOR AND JUNIOR SQUADS
It was a crisp but very cool February day today and Vice Captain Maureen was freezing. Gillian Kyle came along although she is carrying a back injury and didn’t take part in too much of the golf although she walked around with her team mates and did the short game practice. Trish is away bonding with her new grandson this weekend!!
Here are some photographs of today’s training taken by Maureen with both the Junior and Senior Squads.

THIRD TIME LUCKY FOR THE LAST QUARTER FINAL WINTER FOURSOMES TIE
Carol Anderson on the 8th Green (Click to enlarge) |
Janette McCartney (Erskine) and Carol Fell (Ranfurly Castle) were the eventual winners against Lois Brown (Kilmacolm) and Carol Anderson (Eastwood) by 3 and 1. In a very closely contested match that really was only decided by the odd putt -- everyone played to their total surprise -- "REALLY QUITE WELL"
Carol Anderson playing off a handicap of 20 had some superb shots and Lois who also played well and putted exceptionally well (eg a 40 foot putt at the 16th to win the hole !) --- The match was a close contest.
Janette and Carol (Fell) had to give 8 strokes but were delighted to have played well to manage to overcome the strong challenge.
When the match finished on the 17th your Webmaster Carol tried to take a photograph on the 18th tee (pictured left -- click to enlarge) with her camera on a time delay. However she was a bit slow trying to run into the photo -- hence the missing Carol (F) and the poor photo of Carol (A), Lois and Janette!!

SENIOR AND JUNIOR SQUAD TRAINING
The Senior and Junior Squads had their first winter training sessions on Sunday. It wasn't a bad morning albeit they were in the bays at Playsport.
Lesley MacKay started with the Juniors, 14 of them, at 9.30, getting them in the mood for golf again. They moved onto some target practice and amid much laughter and chat there was a great mood amongst them all and a lot of potential was shown.
The Seniors followed on at 11.30 with 11 in the group this week.....
Donna Jackson, Liz Stewart, Carol Whyte, Sara McCorkell, Gillian Kyle, Nicky Henderson, Patricia Davidson, Lesley Cosh, Alyson McKechin, Linsey Stevenson, Natasha Qayum,
Absent: Megan Briggs, Eilidh Briggs and Gillian McGinlay
It was good to see each other again and we were delighted that Sara McCorkell joined us after a year away following the birth of her little boy. Among other things, Lesley had the squad practicing fades and draws and with working in pairs they received points for their success. They too had some target practice and in the end the player who amassed the most points was Liz Stewart.....well done Liz!
Both Senior and Junior Squads meet again in 2 weeks time for our next session.
