ALYSON AND EILIDH IN SPAIN FOR SLGA COACHING
Renfrewshire's Alyson McKechin (pictured above) and Eilidh Briggs were at Desert Springs in Spain last week with the SLGA for Coaching. Past Captain Beth Paterson who is in charge of training was also there. I believe Beth got a game with the girls and because she was on the losing side had to jump into a pond which she said was freezing ! However, apart from that the girls enjoyed the hard work and training.

JANETTE AND CAROL ARE THE 2011 COUNTY WINTER FOURSOMES WINNERS
Carol Fell and Janette McCartney (2011 Winter Foursomes Winners) - Click to enlarge |
The Final was being contested between Glennis Rintoul and Margaret Gray....Old Ranfurly and Janette McCartney--Erskine and Carol Fell--Ranfurly Castle.
Janette and Carol were giving away 10 shots which sounded a lot but they went ahead after a lovely approach shot at the 1st by Janette and they never lost their lead from then on. The 1st nine were hotly contested with Janette and Carol going out in a very steady 40 and they stood on the 10th tee 2up as Glennis and Margaret kept close on their heels only losing the 2 holes because of the putts . But sadly Glennis and Margaret could not keep it up and lost 10, 11 and 13 to put them 5 down with 5 to play. It was all over at the 14th and we congratulate Carol and Janette as worthy winners and well done to the Old Ranfurly pair who put up a good fight.
We all retired to the clubhouse at Kilmacolm where we partook of "tea and scones and.......WINE!" -- Click on the photo on the left to see your President Eileen Gibb enjoying a scone plus she had a little wine as well !
Janette and Carol were presented with the Winter Foursomes Salvers and they thanked the crowds for coming to watch and support!!
With Colin Brown commenting at the dinner that the ladies enjoyed tea and scones after their recent golf ties -- It was noted today that President Eileen Gibb enjoyed the scones as well as very kindly treating us all to a nice glass of wine as well !!!!

CAROL AND JANETTE WIN THROUGH TO THE FINAL OF THE COUNTY WINTER FOURSOMES
Carol, Janette, Morag and Thea in the County Semi Final Tie --- Click to enlarge |
The 2nd Semi Final of the County Winter Foursomes was played this afternoon at Ranfurly Castle. The match was between Janette McCartney (Erskine) and Carol Fell (Ranfurly Castle) and Morag Little and Thea Morgan (Whitecraigs) with 6 shots being given by the "home" team.
The game was a close one with the deciding factor really being down to the odd putt that won the holes.
Morag and Thea were 1 up after 4 holes and then Carol and Janette had a good run of pars and were 2 up at the turn. They then went 3up at the 10th with another par and the Thea and Morag fought back at the 11th and 12th to get it back to 1 down.
Carol and Janette won the 13th , halved the 14th and then a good par 4 at the 15th Cliff hole to be dormie 3 at the 16th where the game was finally conceded.
Everyone enjoyed the game --- We had the course to ourselves which everyone enjoyed.
Finally a cup of tea, coffee and hot chocolate and a scone with cream and jam was a welcoming finish at the 19th !!
Janette and Carol now meet Margaret Gray and Glennis Rentoul (Old Ranfurly) in the final - which will be played at Kilmacolm Golf Course -- Monday 14th March -- Tee Off 2pm
