EILIDH IS 21 TODAY - HAPPY BIRTHDAY AND ALYSON, IONA AND EILIDH ALL MAKE THE CUT AT THE HELEN HOLM

Saturday 26 April 2014
Dear EILIDH,
HAPPY 21ST BIRTHDAY FROM ALL IN  RENFREWSHIRE LADIES' COUNTY

England’s 17-year-old Annabel Dimmock showed her desire to clinch a place in GB and Ireland’s Curtis Cup team by taking a five shot lead with a round to play in the Helen Holm Scottish Open Strokeplay Championship at Troon.
But Ayrshire's Connie Jaffrey made sure that there will be plenty local interest in Sunday’s final round over Troon’s Old Course as she birdied the long 18th over Troon Portland to stand in a tie for second place.
Renfrewhire's Alyson McKechin, the Scottish Amateur Champion, finished second last year and was tied for third and alongside Lauren Whyte on 72 after the opening day. However, she slipped back into a tie for tenth on one under par after a 77.
Grantown-On-Spey’s Hannah McCook was on the same mark following a 74.
Many Congratulations go to Renfrewshire's Iona Stephen who had an excellent second round  -- 2 under par 73 to make it through to the final round tomorrow over Royal Troon.
RLCGA County Champion Eilidh Briggs and "Birthday Girl" did not fair so well today with a 3 over par 78 but still made the cut with ease.
Unfortunately Megan Briggs had a few unfortunate bad holes to just miss the cut by one shot.

The leading 66 players and ties after Saturday's Round 2 over

From the SLGA Website

MCKECHIN AND WHYTE HEAD HOME CHALLENGE
England’s fast rising star Annabel Dimmock led the way with a first round five under par 70 while Scot Alyson McKechin again showed her liking for the Helen Holm Scottish Open Strokeplay Championship at Troon Portland.

Elderslie’s Alyson McKechin, the Scottish Amateur Champion, finished second last year and a flawless opening three under par 72 put her in a four way share of third place that also included another Scot, Lauren Whyte.

Connie Jaffrey, the reigning Scottish Girls' Champion and Troon Ladies' Club member, was the third Scot under par on 74.

Renfrewshire’s Alyson McKechin birdied the long sixth and 15th and then completed the hat-trick with a three at the 17th.

Whyte, the 2012 Scottish Girls’ Champion from St Regulus, had three birdies and then saved her best for last with an eagle three at the closing hole.

Dimmock made her move with three birdies in a row from the turn. Winner of the Jones Doherty Challenge Cup in Florida earlier this year – Scot Kelsey MacDonald was her caddie – the Wentworth teenager had seven birdies to take a one shot lead over Delamere Forest’s Gemma Clews.

Dimmock was a member of last year’s English Girls’ and Senior Home International teams and if she can continue the form over the next two days she must have pusher herself into the sights of the Curtis Cup selectors.

After another round over Troon Portland, the top 66 players and ties qualify for Sunday’s final round over the Old Course, Troon.

EILIDH TAKES THE COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP FOR THE THIRD TIME WITH BIRDIES GALORE

Eilidh is presented with the championship Trophy by Captain Gillian -- Photo Courtesy of Maureen Woodhead
Kilmacolm's Eilidh Briggs played up to her +3 handicap with some brilliant golf in winning the Renfrewshire Women's County Golf Championship for a third time at Cochrane Castle Golf Club today (Friday).
Eilidh, the top seed and a Stirling University P.E. student, beat Iona Stephen (Country member of Ranfurly Castle) who plays off two and is now a member at Wentworth, by 6 and 4 with a sub-par performance.
Eilidh was out in 34 to her opponent's 39, was four up at the turn, having birdied the fourth, fifth and eighth. She also won the nine with a par.
She then won the 12th and 13th and then finished the match with a birdie 2 at the 14th for a 6 and 4 victory.
A result, particularly the margin of it, must have been a disappointment for Iona who had played some very good golf herself over the three days but she was simply outgunned in the final.
Iona did take home one cup - the Peggy Clark Trophy for the best net score on the qualifying day.

In the morning semi-finals, Eildh produced five birdies in beating Greenburn's Liz Stewart 3 and 2
Liz had two birdies of her own and was all square on the 14th tee before Eilidh's birdies at the 14th and 16th finished off a very good match.
In the other semi-final, Donna Jackson (Cochrane Castle), county champion a record 11 times, lost by one hole to Iona Stephen who had three birdies in an outward 36 to her opponent's 39.
Donna had birdies at the 10th and 17th to be only one down playing the 18th. Both players parred the hole, leaving Iona, the one-hole winner and a county finalist for the first time.

RESULTS
Semi-finals - Eilidh Briggs (Kilmacolm) beat Liz Stewart (Greenburn) 3 and 2
Iona Stephen (Wentworth) beat Donna Jackson (Cochrane Castle) 1 hole.
Final - Eilidh Briggs beat Iona Stephen 6 and 4.

Many thanks go to Results Secretary Freda Tuck and Colin Farquharson for the report.
