West of Scotland Jamboree (Please Support)

The West of Scotland Inter County Championship starts off at East Renfrewshire Golf Club on Monday morning at 9a.m. with the Foursomes  -  D & A v Ayrshire and Renfrewshire v Lanarkshire.  The singles commence at 1.30p.m. 
On Tuesday it is Renfrewshire v D & A and Lanarkshire v Ayrshire.
On Wednesday Lanarkshire play D & A and Renfrewshire play Ayrshire.
Come along in your team colours, with your pink brollies (if you do not have one they will be available for purchase on the day  -  not that you will need them for the rain) and encourage your team  -  Renfrewshire!  The team have been practising hard so they would really appreciate your support.  Remember the winners go forward to the Scottish County Finals at Hirsel Golf Club, Berwickshire, in September.

Renfrewshire Girls Win The Kennedy Salver


Renfrewshire Girls played fantastically well to win The Kennedy Salver today at Strathaven golf Club. This is the annual Inter County matches between Ayrshire, Dumbartonshire and Argyll, Lanarkshire and Renfrewshire.

In the morning, Lanarkshire beat Dumbartonshire 31/2 to 1 ½.

Renfrewshire beat Ayrshire 3 matches to 2.

Lucy Bannerman lost to Rachael McQueen 2 and 1

Congratulations go to all the girls for their excellent play and determination in difficult conditions.

Thanks go to Mearns Castle Golf Academy for letting the girls have use of their facilities for training in the winter and to Karyn Burns for her coaching. Also, thanks to Donna Jackson, Allison McGinnigle and Lesley Robertson from the Senior squad and Dorothy Yates, Beth Paterson and Carol Fell for giving up a very wet Sunday to help the girls with short game practice. It's all been worthwhile!

Renfrewshire Players do well in the Munross Trophy

Strathaven’s Jenna Wilson bounced back from the disappointment of last week’s Ladies British open amateur golf championship at Royal County Down to win the Munross Trophy for the second year in a row at Montrose yesterday (Sunday).

Megan and Elildh win the Team Trophy for Renfrewshire

Megan Briggs (Kilmacolm)finished runner up in this years Scottish School Championship played over the Lochgreen and Darley courses at Troon.Megan also teamed up with younger sister Elildh to represent Renfrewshire Schools in the Championship and the girls were rewarded by winning the Team Trophy for 2006.The weather was the usual,a mixture of torrential rain ,high winds and sunshine.

Janet Gillies (Ranfurly Castle) celebrates her 90th Birthday

Past RLCGA member Janet Gillies (Ranfurly Castle) mother of Patricia Brown (Kilmacolm) celebrated her 90th birthday today. What a lovely day it was too. The garden party was held at Patricia's house in Kilmacolm and friends came to wish her well. One of the guests was her very good friend Eileen Gibb (Past Captain of RLCGA)

Eilidh Briggs in West Under - 18 Team

The Team to represent the West in the SLGA Under-18 Inter-Divisional Matches at Ballumbie Castle on 10/11th June, is as follows:- Eilidh Briggs (Kilmacolm) Kerrie Differ, Allison Lewis, Jill Meldrum, Lauren Meldrum and Vicki Smith.

Janette McCartney (Erskine) does well in the LGU Challange Bowls

Ayrshire champion Lesley Hendry’s trip over to Dunblane for the LGU Challenge Bowls tournament was well worthwhile. The Routenburn player won the Wallace Williamson Bowl for the best scratch score of 68 in a field of 38 and she made it a double whammy by winning the Silver Division’s LGU Challenge Bowl with her net score of 66.
Under the rules of the competition, Lesley could win both trophies but not first prize in the handicap section which went to Jacqueline Sneddon (Alyth) with a net 70 off six. Janette McCartney (Erskine) was runner-up with a net 72 off eight.

New Date for the West of Scotland Championship

The West of Scotland Ladies' Golf Championship which was cancelled at Hilton Park Golf Club on Sunday, 7th May, will now be held there on the 15th of October commencing 10a.m. One round only. Any enquiries to West of Scotland Secretary, Nora McCrossin.

Spring Meeting - Erskine

Lorraine Morrow was the winner of the Spring Meeting over her home course with a net 71. Donna Jackson, Cochrane Castle returned a gross 79 to win the scratch award. Anita McMillan Erskine was the 2nd division winner with a net 77.

May County Medal over Haggs Castle

Fiona Roger (Ranfurly Castle) our Results Secretary was the Overall winner of the May Medal played over Haggs Castle today. In very blustery conditions her net score of 75 was the best of the day by virtue of the better inward half from Sandra Gilchrist (Whitecraigs). Gillian McGinlay (Cochrane Castle). Christeen Finlyson (Whitecraigs) was the winner of the 13 and above handicap group. The sss 73 css 76 (Reduction Only)

The final of the County Winter Foursomes took place today at Cowglen Golf Course. Fiona Roger and Anne Robinson (Ranfurly Castle) beat LInda Stevenson and Alison Patrick (Whitecraigs)3 and 1.
Captain Beth Paterson presented the trophies to the winners after the match.

Megan Briggs is the 2006 RLCGA Champion


Megan Briggs won the 2006 RLCGA Championship at Eastwood by beating last years Champion Donna Jackson by 6 and 5 in the final today. Megan was 4 under par for the holes that she played. Megan also had a hole in 1 at the 7th Hole in the morning against Sara Harman
