Enter the April Medal and Championship

SLGA'S New Matchplay Club Foursomes Event

Kirkwood Golf New club match-play foursomes event
added to SLGA calendar

The Scottish foursomes tournament has not been well supported over the last few years, and was cancelled last summer due to lack of entries.
Dr Lynne Terry (Cruden Bay), the SLGA treasurer, came up with a suggestion for an inter-club match-play foursomes handicap tournament which could be run over the summer with semi-finals and final on the same day as the Scottish stroke-play foursomes tournament (August 30 at Forfar Golf Club) with scratch and handicap prizes.
Each club can enter a team of two or three players to represent it during the season. The total combined handicaps of the team must not exceed 60. Any two of the team can represent the club in each round.
Each match will be played on the basis of full difference of half the combined handicaps (on the day) of the two players representing the club.
The SLGA will make the draw for each round. The rounds will be based on geographical locations of the clubs to minimise travel as far as possible.
The 18-hole stroke-play tournament on the finals day will prioritise the 16 lowest combined handicaps, along with additional entries from the clubs involved in the semi-finals and the clubs that entered the match play.
If the event is not fully subscribed then clubs who did not enter the match play can enter, and if it is over-subscribed then higher handicap teams will be eliminated first.
Entry forms went out to the clubs with last week's mailing from the SLGA.

WINTER FUN FOR THE RENFREWSHIRE TRAINING SQUAD!

The 2009 RLCGA Training Squad go curling -- Click to enlarge
The first Training Squad get-together of 2009 was held at Braehead Ice Rink where, amidst great hilarity, twelve of the squad demonstrated their versatility and enthusiasm for all sports. I am pleased and relieved to say at the end of the session they all walked off the ice in one piece and none the worse of some spectular falls - which lead to all round amusement! We divided into three teams and played a round robin - it didn't take long till everyone was gliding up the ice like graceful swans delivering their stones (with the odd hook!) and some of the sweeping was first class!

Our official coaches, Margaret and Norman Cathcart, were very impressed how quickly the girls adapted to the game and picked up tactics! All obviously natural athletes! Many thanks to Margaret and Norman who gave most generously of their time and were excellent coaches.

The pangs of hunger after this strenuous exercise led us to The Pizza Hut where we enjoyed pizza, pasta and good company.

We were all delighted to hear that Sara and Graham are expecting their first baby at the end of July.

The Renfrewshire Squad for 2009 is:

Eilidh Briggs (Kilmacolm), Megan Briggs (Kilmacolm), Clare-Marie Carlton (Fereneze), Donna Jackson (Cochrane Castle), Jennifer Jenkins (Ralston), Gillian Kyle (East Renfrewshire), Gillian McGinlay (Cochrane Castle), Alyson McGinnigle (Cochrane Castle), Alyson McKechin (Elderslie), Natasha Quayum (Ranfurly Castle), Liz Stewart (Cochrane Castle) and Carol Whyte (Windyhill). Juniors/Students Lesley Cosh (Cowglen), Linsey Stevenson (Whitecraigs) and Nicky Wilson (Whitecraigs) are also included with the squad in order to develop their game further. We will miss Sara McCorkell (Williamwood) but look forward to her joining us next year.

Beatrice and Morag are through to the Semi Finals of the Winter Foursomes

Beatrice Orr and Morag Turner (Kilmacolm) won today against Maureen Mitchell (Old Ranfurly) & Maimie Robin (Elderslie) at Kilmacolm. It was a good day to play but the heavy frost had thawed and it was rather wet underfoot. It was a very close game and the home players Beatrice and Morag were nearly pipped at the post. They were all square going up the 18th which they won by one shot.
