ALYSON BEATS CURTIS CUP STAR BRONTE LAW BUT LOSES OUT TO A FRENCH PLAYER

 Renfrewshire's Alyson McKechin (Elderslie) had a marvellous 5 and 3 win over 17-year-old Curtis Cup player Bronte Law (Bramhall) this morning after being two up at the turn with two-under-par figures.
She then played Laure Castelain from France this afternoon and was one up with three to play but  lost all three holes to go down by two holes. 

Alyson also almost had a hole in one at the short 13th, her ball coming to rest an inch or two from the cup.
What a great experience for Alyson and many congratulations from everyone in the County for qualifying for the matchplay stages and reaching the last 32 -- a fantastic achievement.

Unfortunately, two of them, Amy Boulden from Conwy, North Wales and Stephanie Meadow, the University of Alabama student from Royal Portrush, Northern Ireland, will meet in the third round.
The other Curtis Cupper through to the last 16 is English champion Kelly Tidy who produced some of the best figures of the opening match-play day. She was three or four under par in beating Olivia Winning (Rotherham) by 7 and 5

CENTRAL DATABASE OF HANDICAPS - Increasing number of clubs registering for scheme

377 clubs throughout Scotland, representing over 143,000 players, have registered so far with the Central Database Of handicaps scheme being undertaken by the SGU in association with the SLGA and the Welsh Golf Union.

The Scottish Golf Union continue to make good progress with the promotion of the scheme and have been assisting with club/player registration enquiries.

 The SGU/SLGA are hoping that  as many clubs as possible will register for the scheme, maximising the benefits of the automatic transfer of away scores between clubs.

A paper outling the benefits of the schem has been in circulation for some time :-

BENEFITS

For the Individual Golfer:

 Players able to access their Exact and Playing Handicap online (including date of last update and itemising any away scores Nett Differentials pending processing at the Player’s home golf club)

 Once all golf clubs actively participating, removes the requirement for player’s to return away score information to their ‘home’ golf club

 Using unique identification numbers ensures all player’s scores are recorded on their own individual Player Handicap Record, eliminating the possibility of scores being recorded against the wrong name

 Full annual playing record readily available to all players

 Assurance that the integrity of the CONGU® Unified Handicapping System is being maintained and the System is being consistently applied throughout Scotland/Wales creating as level a playing field as possible across all handicap categories

 Current handicap position available to all players on central server

 Personalised ‘Scottish Golf/Welsh Golf’ member card, facilitating easy access/reference to CDH

For the Club Administrators:

 A standardised system of assured integrity

 All ‘away’ scores returned to the ‘home’ club of players automatically – these will contain correct CSS information along with applicable Stableford / Nett Double Bogey Adjustments

 No further need for golf clubs hosting competitions to manually return the results back to the ‘home’ clubs of participating players

 ‘Away’ score administration streamlined through batch data processing of all members ‘away’ scores

 Significantly reduces the possibility of double entry of ‘away’ scores

 Eliminates requirement for clubs to file returns for the annual National Handicap Audit

 CDH provides a Handicap history / archive, available when player changes club or leaves the game for a period and later, rejoins a golf club

 Tournament organisers able to authenticate handicaps online for competition entrants in real time

 If a club loses its handicap data for any reason then they can immediately access the full handicap records of their members and reinstate these to minimise disruption to their operations.

 Monitor trends in golf club membership

 Automated information available for annual National Handicap Audit purposes

 Unions, Associations, Areas and Counties have ability to access up-to-date handicap information for team and coaching squad selection purposes

 Gives the potential for tournament organisers to access up-to-date information for entry qualification and authenticate handicaps online for competition entrants

 Provides a wealth of statistical information readily accessible to monitor trends in handicapping, participation within the game and assure a fair and equitable handicapping system for all amateur golfers

 Greater assurance that the handicapping system is being applied consistently by all clubs and players throughout golf clubs affiliated to the participating Governing Bodies – thereby increasing integrity of the CONGU Unified Handicapping System

The SGU are aware that some clubs do not have computer equipment or handicap software but would still like to hear from these clubs to buld a comprehensive picture of involvement, or future intent, with regard to the scheme.

 The only clubs in Renfrewshire who have not registered so far are Lochwinnoch (the Men are registered!) and Greenock.

Renfrewshire Ladies County Golf Association is one the 1st Counties to be trialling it. As you can imagine we have over 230 members who are all Away Members within the club and everyone's UNIQUE CDH must be matched with your home Club and put into the county laptop. There have been a few hiccups within the system and hopefully as the season progresses these will be eventually ironed out.

ALYSON QUALIFIES FOR THE MATCHPLAY STAGES OF THE BRITISH WOMEN AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP

A marvellous three under par 69 - the lowest of both qualifying rounds - earned Super Scot Sally Watson the honour of being top seed for the match-play stages of the British women's open amateur golf championship at Carnoustie.
Sally, originally from South Queensferry but whose family home is now Elie in Fife, tied with 18-year-old French girl Celine Boutier on three-under-par 141 for the No 1 spot.
Sally had rounds of 72-69, Celine 70-71, so the card comparison gave Sally, with the better second round, the No 1 seeding.

Alyson

The only other Scots to figure among the 64 match-play qualifiers were:
Rachael Watton (Mortonhall) on 152 (77-75).
Young Jessica Meek (Carnoustie Ladies) on 153 (82-71). --- The 17-year-old who came off the waiting list at the last minute on Tuesday because she was local and ready, willing able to step into a vacancy that came up. Her 71 is a record by a Carnoustie Ladies GC member.
Renfrewshire's Alyson McKechin (Elderslie) on 157 (82-75) also made the cut.

RAIN RAIN AND MORE RAIN AT CARNOUSTIE

The rain has arrived at Carnoustie for the second qualifying round of the Ladies' British Open Amateur Championship - and the forecast is that it will stay for a few days.
The good news is that the wind will stay away.
A total of 68 players broke 80 in the first qualifying round when the CSS was 79, exactly the same as the SSS but, of course, seven over the par for the championship course laid out by the Ladies Golf Union.
With the weather deteriorating, it is difficult to forecast what the qualifying mark will be for the 64 leading players who will progress at the end of the day to the match-play stages on Thursday-Friday-Saturday.
Megan had an 81 and Alyson an 82 in Round 1. They will both have to have good rounds today to make the cut .

MEGAN AND ALYSON ARE WELL OFF THE PACE AFTER ROUND 1 OF THE BRITISH AT CARNOUSTIE

Renfrewshire's Megan Briggs (Kilmacolm) had an 81 which matched the scores of defending champion Lauren Taylor (Woburn) and Curtis Cup heroine Stephanie Meadow (Royal Portrush) in today's first round of the British Ladies Open Championship at Carnoustie.

Kelsey MacDonald (Nairn Dunbar), beaten in the final at Ganton a couple of years ago by Kelly Tidy, has an 82, the same score as Ann Ramsay (Kirriemuir) and Renfrewshire's Alyson McKechin (Elderslie)
Aberdonian Gemma Dryburgh, a student at Tulane University, New Orleans, had a disappointing 85.
Carnoustie is no respector of reputations. Alexandra Bonetti (France), beaten in last years final, had an 84 (44-40), the same score as Susan Jackson (Ladybank).
Bonetti had an 8 at the second and a 7 at the sixth.
The leading 64 will go forward after Wednesday's second qualifying round

EILIDH WITHDRAWS FROM THE BRITISH OPEN AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP AT CARNOUSTIE

Renfrewshire's Eilidh Briggs (Kilmacolm), last year's Scottish girls golf champion, has had to withdraw from the 109th British women's open amateur championship which tees off tomorrow with the first of two stroke-play qualifying rounds at Carnoustie's championship links.

"I am disappointed not to be able to compete, I was really looking forward to my first British as in the past I have had school exams! Especially since it is being held at a great venue I have never had the chance to play," said 19-year-old Eilidh.
"However, I fly out later this week to the world university championships in the Czech Republic as a part of the GB team. Therefore, if I had qualified for the match play at Carnoustie and continued throughout the championship the two would clash, and LGU regulations state you cannot just compete in the stroke-play so therefore I have had to withdraw from the British."

Both Megan Briggs and Alyson McKechin are playing and we wish them all the best.

Well, what a fantastic three days we had at Cardross.  The team spirit was terrific and we had some great laughs between the serious matter of winning the West Division Championship!!

The Scottish Championship will be played at Montrose Golf Club 21 - 23 September and it would be absolutely terrific if the team could look to the spectators and see some "Pink Ladies" around.

RENFREWSHIRE WIN THE INTER COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP

Renfrewshire - The 2012 West Division Inter County Champions

Renfrewshire are the 2012 Inter County Champions --  They clinched their appearance in September's Scottish county finals at Montrose Links with a 6 1/2-2 1/2 win over Ayrshire on the last day of the West Division women's inter-county team championship at Cardross.
Renfrewshire had already beaten Dunbartonshire and Argyll, and Lanarkshire.
On paper, Renfrewshire's final match was still in the balance at 1 1/2pts each after the morning foursomes, but their outstanding depth of talent in the singles saw them take the afternoon session by a commanding 5-1 margin.
Scottish girls champion Eilidh Briggs (Kilmacolm) and Alyson McKechin (Elderslie) were the joint top winners of the tournament, the Renfrewshire pair each winning six out of six points.
Not far behind them were Megan Briggs and Linsey Stevenson with 4 1//2pt apiece.
Lanarkshire finished runners-up, beating Dunbartonshire and Argyll 6-3 in the day's other match after making a clean sweep of the three morning foursomes.

Of note from the day --  Megan and Linsey staged a fantastic fightback this morning in their foursomes match.
They were 4 down with 4 to play and managed to win the last 4 holes to square their match and allow the team to draw the foursomes against Ayrshire and in the afternoon we won 5 out of the 6 singles.

Renfrewshire are favourites to win the West Division women's inter-county team golf championship at Cardross GC.
They made it two wins out of two on Day 2 when they beat the other Day 1 winners, Lanarkshire 7-2.
The Morning Foursomes were won by 2-1 with Alyson and Eilidh being in tremendous form starting with 3 birdies in a row to kick off the teams fantastic display of good golf.
Their strength in depth in the singles, spearheaded by County Champion Alyson McKechin (Elderslie) followed by, Eilidh, Megan Gillian and Linsey shone through as they took the afternoon session 5-1.
In the other tie last year's champions, Ayrshire, lost for the second time, beaten 5 1/2-3 1/2 by Dunbartonshire and Argyll.
The West Division champions will meet the other three divisional title-winners in the Scottish county finals at Montrose Links in September.

Eilidh, Megan, Alyson and Linsey are all winners against D&A

The first day of the County Jamboree took place at Cardross today in lovely sunshine and Renfrewshire and Lanarkshire were the winners against D&A and Ayrshire respectively.

Flashback to last Sunday and a picture - even though it's slightly out of focus with the moving figures and taken from some distance away - that's worth publishing because it encapsules the unbounded joy of GB and I winning for the first time since 1996. 

That's Bronte Law with her back to the camera and that's her kid sister Bella, obviously delighted and excited, as she runs towards her.
Stephanie Meadow, who had just clinched victory for GB and I, is just behind Bella Law.

PAST CURTIS CUP PLAYERS MATCH --- THE SCOTS AND IRISH WIN

FLASHBACK to last week's Curtis Cup match and the Past Players' Match which helped to raise the curtain for the 37th encounter.  The former Curtis Cup players who travelled to Nairn were split into two teams - Scotland and Ireland versus The Rest (who included United States stalwart Carol Semple Thompson who has made most appearances in Curtis Cup matches, both as a player and as a captain).The Scotland/Ireland team won the Neville Trophy and they have pride of place in the above picture taken on the steps of The Nairn clubhouse.
