SLGA AGM AT PERTH TODAY
REPORT TAKEN FROM THE GILLIAN KIRKWOOD WEBSITE
SLGA Chairman Shona Malcolm welcomed a full house to the Scottish Ladies' Golfing Association Limited AGM at the Dewars Centre in Perth this morning.
Renfrewshire were represented by Captain Trish Brown, Secretary Jean Irvine and Junior Secretary Maureen Mitchell. -- Plus also attending the meeting - Past President Wendy Cameron, Past Captains Christeen Finlayson, Aileen Wilson, Jennifer Mack, Sheila Goudie and your webmaster Carol Fell
Before proceedings began, President, Emma Wilson, paid tribute to past Chairman, Anne Fraser, a member of Turnberry and Ayrshire, who died in 2010.
The Chairman's report had already been circulated and Shona picked out particular highlights, including the Scottish Ladies' team victory in the Home Internationals and third place in the European Team Championships, the Seniors' team fantastic victory in the European Senior Team Championships and our Junior team's runner-up spot in the Junior Home Internationals. On the individual front, Pamela Pretswell had won the British Stroke Play Championship and Kelsey Macdonald had been runner-up in the British Amateur and had won the Scottish Championship. Pamela and Sally Watson had represented GB&I in the Curtis Cup at Essex County Club, near Boston, Mass.
Shona also touched on the Performance and Development aspects of the SLGA remit, as well as giving thanks to those who had helped SLGA last year.
Finance Director, Lynne Terry, reported that SLGA Ltd had shown a healthy surplus of £61,000 last year, largely due to prudent cost control and some events costing less than expected. The fall in the number of lady golfers was once again evident at 4.1%, but an increase in subscriptions by £1 had absorbed that potential shortfall.
The report of the Scottish Representative on the Executive Council of the Ladies Golf Union, Janet Wake, had also been previously circulated, and Janet highlighted some of the coming events in the 2011 season, in partcular the Ricoh Womens British Open at Carnoustie, 28-31st July, the Astor Trophy (previously Commonwealth Trophy) at Fairhaven 15-19th June and the Vagliano Trophy Match against the Continent of Europe at Royal Porthcawl, 24-25 June.
Election of office-bearers went through smoothly with June McEwan (East) and Liz Scott (South) coming onto the Board. Lorna Bennett takes over from Janet Wake as Scottish Representative on the Executive Council of the Ladies Golf Union. Cara Gruber is the new North selector.
Amendments to Regulation 3.5 governing County Golf had already been discussed by the County Captains and were approved at the meeting.
A "tidying up" exercise had been performed on Regulation 7 (National Championships and other Tournaments run by the SLGA) and amendments were approved at the meeting.
The proposal that annual subscriptions and fees for 2012 remain the same was also approved, with the caveat that if the amalgamation goes through then subscriptions would be different.

Chairman, Shona Malcolm and Chief Operating Officer, Sheila Hartley, presented a cut down version of the road-show that had already been shown to clubs and counties round the Country in the last few months. There were many questions from the floor. Anxiety that the proposals were proceeding at "breakneck speed" with little time to take it in, were voiced. These proposals are still at the consultation stage, and feedback from the roadshows and the two AGMS (The SGU AGM is next weekend) as well as individual feedback from clubs, counties and members will be examined at a meeting of the Amalgamation Committee at the end of January.
Sheila Hartley asked that any comments should be made to her before 25th January ----- secretary@slga.co.uk for consideration by this committee. Once the proposal has been refined in the light of feedback, a new round of roadshows will be presented to both men and women together in the spring, with a view to holding Special General Meetings of both organisations in the latter half of May, where 75% would have to vote in favour for the proposals for it to go through. If that happens the Board of the new Scottish Golf Limited would be recruited in the summer with a view to the Amalgamation happening on 1st October.
There were questions of costs, representation, who would pay etc. It was emphasised that the proposal was a "very broad brush" at present, the minutiae of how it will all happen has not yet be finalised. Yes, there would be costs, but they would be kept to a minimum, and absorbed by both organisations. Subscriptions, currently £9 for men and £14 for women would probably settle at £11 for both genders.
SLGA County and SGU Area boundaries would remain the same. There is no proposal for Counties and Areas to amalgamate. Clubs would be the stakeholders in the new organisation, with each club's liability limited to £1.

The move to bring the Scottish Golf Union (SGU) and Scottish Ladies' Golfing Association (SLGA) together as a single governing body has gathered momentum with a formal proposal being delivered to each organisation’s members.
The proposal with details of the roles of Board members and committees and a covering letter from the Amalgamation Group Chair, Donald Turner may be accessed by clicking on the links.
The SGU and SLGA have delivered a formal proposal to member clubs, Areas and Counties this week outlining plans for amalgamation as a single governing body from 1 October 2011. Click Here to read more

WINTER FOURSOMES EXTENSIONS
I have given the question of extensions a lot of thought over the last few days, and I feel that safety should come first and games should only be played when courses are properly playable and safe. We have lost several weeks due to snow and ice – and there’s nothing we can do about that! I fully appreciate that holidays have been arranged, and that ties would, and could, now be played if the conditions allow.
I therefore would ask that competitors play their ties at the earliest possible time when the course involved is playable. I would like the “Final” to be played by the end of March at the latest, so please do your best to play as soon as you can, so that all the rounds can be completed and still leave time for the Final to be arranged. Surely by mid-February the weather will have improved!
If there are any queries please do not hesitate to give myself or Audrey Barclay a phone.

ALYSON HAS AN 80 IN ROUND 3 OF THE HARDER HALL WOMENS INVITATIONAL IN FLORIDA

Former Scotland junior cap Rebecca Wilson (Grange, Monifieth and Stirling Uni) is on 236 with rounds of 84, 74 and 78 - six shots ahead of Tennessee University student Rebecca Watson (Elie and Earlsferry) who slipped back with an 86 for 242, the same mark as Scottish girl international from Renfrewshire Alyson McKechin (Elderslie) who enrols at Stirling in the autumn. Alyson had a third-round 80.
Two more Stirling students, Eilidh Mackay (Nairn Dunbar) and Harriet Beasley (Wobur ) are on 255 and 257 respectively. Eilidh had a third-round 85 and Harriet an 84.
Jordana Graham (Stirling Univ and Southerness) also had an 86 for 244.

ALYSON 6 SHOTS BETTER ON DAY 2
Instead of teeing off, the golfers took cover as the rain and wind took over Thursday morning and delayed the start of the second round for one hour and 45 minutes on Day 2 of the Harder Hall Women's Invitational Tournament at Harder Hall Golf Club, Sebring in Florida - the first event of the annual Orange Blossom Tour. Alyson improved her score by 6 shots --- Well done

HARDER HALL INVITATIONAL DAY 2 AT SEBRING, FLORIDA

Just a note to say the weather was awful this morning due to thunder and lightning. There was a two-hour delay so there will be a number of groups that won't complete the second round today.

ALYSON MCKECHIN IS IN FLORIDA PLAYING IN THE ORANGE BLOSSOM TOUR
The women’s golf squad, headed by Scottish champion Kelsey MacDonald (Nairn Dunbar),is currently taking part in three events on the women's amateur Orange Blossom Tour in Florida.
The students who are making the trip along with Kelsey are: Rebecca Wilson, Jordana Graham, Eilidh Mackay, Harriet Beasley, Flore Lafaille

2011 SLGA ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

MEMBERSHIP OF RENFREWSHIRE LADIES' COUNTY GOLF ASSOCIATION
Dear Member
At the AGM last month I asked everyone to go away and consider a proposal which was made to all the County Captains regarding the make up of the membership.
At present one has to be proposed and seconded to become a member of the County and in Renfrewshire one may only be proposed if one’s handicap is 24 or less. It is a nomad club…..we do not have a home club but we arrange competitions on the courses in Renfrewshire for our members.
The SLGA would like to know the opinion of the various County members on the following:-
Should the membership of the County Association be open to all lady members of Renfrewshire clubs?
Their fees would be collected through their golf club. This would be in line with how the Renfrewshire men run their Area. Obviously the numbers of members would increase dramatically with a much increased income although the subscription would be much less than it is at present. I anticipate a lot of dissension on this idea and in so many ways I agree but I do want to remind you all of the reason that the Scottish County Golf Associations were formed.
Our Constitution states that the object of the Association shall be:-
To further the interests of ladies amateur golf in Renfrewshire County at Senior and Junior levels.
To select and maintain County Teams and representatives.
In order to do both these things we require funds mainly for coaching and for accommodation at Inter County matches.
I know that we all enjoy meeting each other at County events, playing on different courses and in many ways that is how most of us look at our membership of the County.
I myself enjoy it for those very reasons but perhaps we should be looking at it from the outside?
I have received only two phone calls on this subject since the AGM and that is why I am reminding you all about it.
I would welcome your opinions on the matter either by letter, phone or preferably Click on the following link to ------ CLICK HERE TO EMAIL ME.
The SLGA would like to know the thoughts of each County by the New Year.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY HEATHER --- FROM ALL AT RLCGA

Heather Anderson is 80 tomorrow ---- Saturday (18th)
Heather was Scottish Champion in 1969 and in the Vagliano Team in that year. She was Renfrewshire County Champion 9 times, and a Scottish Ladies Internationalist in 1964, 1965, 1968, 1969,1970 and 1971.
She still plays off a handicap of 6....pretty remarkable at her age! I wonder if there are any other octogenarians who are still as good and as competitive!
