THEA AND MORAG ARE INTO THE FINAL OF THE WINTER FOURSOMES

Thea and Morag -- Winners of the Semi Final Tie of the Winter Foursomes
The first of the semi finals of the 2012 - 2013 Winter Foursomes was played today over Erskine Golf Course.
What a good semi final it was --- Janette McCartney (Erskine) and Carol Fell (Ranfurly Castle) - the 2010 - 2011 winners played Thea Morgan and Morag Little from Whitecraigs whom they had beaten in the semi finals of their last encounter 2 years ago.

Carol and Janette (The Losing Semi Finalists)
In a real nip and tuck match on a rather chilly but at least dry day, Janette and Carol had to give 5 shots to the Whitecraigs pairing. They were on the full greens but a slightly shortened course due to winter tees.

The match was all square at the turn with lots of pars and a few bogeys. Janette and Carol were 1up after 11 and then the Whitecraigs pairing had 5 net/gross pars in a row to win on the 16th green.

Morag and Thea played exceedingly well with Thea's putting being exceptionally good.
So it was sweet revenge for Thea and Morag.

They now meet the winners of the other semi final between Christeen Finlayson and Sheila Robson (Whitecraigs) and Jinty Rodger and Lesley Forsyth (Williamwood )

RLCGA SENIOR COACHING

Short Game Practice Area at the Glasgow Indoor Golf Academy
This year the Seniors have decided to try the indoor facilities at Glasgow and call once again on the coaching skills of Karyn Burns who is based there.

With everyone being so busy it is terrific to be able to get some coaching once the girls have all finished work and we go there on a Thursday night. We also intend to arrange some golf with our Junior Girls before the season is in ‘full swing’!!

Our first session was last Thursday and eight players managed along. Unfortunately Captain Maureen forgot to take her camera but it will be there next week to capture the evidence!

Karyn gave us some short game and putting practice – the results were probably what to expect at the start of the season but it certainly focuses the mind on getting the right practice in.

The next session is on 14th February.

MANY CONGRATULATIONS TO PAST CAPTAIN BETH WHO IS NOMINATED TO BE THE NEW SLGA CHAIRMAN

Congratulations to Past Captain Beth Paterson on being nominated as the new Chairman of the Scottish Ladies Golf Association.  Her nomination is likely to be ratified at the forthcoming SLGA AGM in January 2013 in Perth.

Beth will undoubtely be a very popular choice and is well respected in Renfrewshire and beyond.  She has huge experience both as a former County player and in the Administration of Golf - not least as RLCGA Captain in 2006-2007.  She has recently served the SLGA as Chairman of Training and a Performance Director.

Apart from all this, Beth is a supremely approachable person and will hopefully carry on the work involving the Amalgamation of the SLGA with the SGU to a quick conclusion.

Well done Beth, your County is proud of you!!

The Chairman’s term of office is three years, although Shona served an additional year to provide continuity in a period of staff and officer changes in 2012.

YOUR CADDY MISTRESS IS INJURED

It is with great regret that I have to announce that Renfrewshire's Caddy Mistress June Lockhart has unfortunately broken her wrist when she fell on the ice about ten days ago.

Despite having to get her wrist reset she is still in good humour  and was able to meet your webmaster Carol for a spot of lunch last Friday.

She is keeping a low profile as you will see from the photo taken in the shade !! - but hopes that all will improve in the new year.

Her son is doing a charity skydive in February in memory of her daughter Sheona. Please have a look at his short video which contains the details  - and perhaps you could consider donating.

MERRY CHRISTMAS

Hi Ladies

I would like to thank you for the lovely cards and flowers I have received since my hospital stay, they have cheered me up no end, especially since I know how busy everyone is at this time of year.

On behalf of Vice Captain Gillian, Secretary Jean, our new Treasurer Tracy - and the rest of the Committee - I would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.  I look forward to the Festive period and to the golf that lies the other side of the 'Bells'.

If you are wondering what to put on your Christmas Wish List - you can now add a Distance Measuring Device!!  The SLGA have intimated that at their AGM in January, use of these will be permitted in SLGA competitions.  On that basis I have withdrawn the proposal Gillian mentioned at the AGM.

Happy Holidays

Captain Maureen x
