Fiona and Brenda - 2014 County Winter Foursomes Champions
The final of the  Winter Foursomes Final took place yesterday at Erskine Golf Club.
The final was contested by Carol Smith & Jennifer Graham (Haggs Castle) and Brenda Conway & Fiona Armour (Renfrew)
On a blustery day at Erskine the Renfrew pairing were given 3 shots as the handicap difference. These shots proved pivotal .
Brenda and Fiona raced to a 4 shot lead after 7 holes only to be pegged back to 2 up at the turn with great golf from the Haggs pairing.
The Renfrew pairing started the back 9 all guns blazing and the game was over after the 13th with a 6 & 5 win.
It was a pleasure to referee the match. CLICK HERE for all the results over the winter season.

COMMONWEALTH TRI ATHLON FUNDRAISER

Junior and Senior Squad at coaching with Karyn Burns
In preparation for Sunday, the senior squad incorporated a second metafit class as well as golf coaching at the Indoor Golf Academy last Wednesday. Karyn Burns - certainly put us through our paces, highlighting the importance of fitness in relation to the inter county matches where you may  be required to play 2 rounds of golf in each of the 3 consecutive days.

The girls had also been hitting the gym in preparation and were looking forward to the challenge.

Junior and Senior Team -- Ready for the challenge

Today (Sunday) ten hardy souls turned up at the Lagoon Leisure Centre in Paisley for the Commonwealth Triathlon Fundraiser.  We had six from the senior squad and four juniors. Even Katrina Milne got out her sick bed turned up but unfortunately was not fit enough to take part.

Myself, Vice-Captain Gillian Kyle, Donna Jackson, Carol Whyte, Megan Briggs, Liz Stewart and Juniors Niamh Kinney, Laura Craig, Lauren Barbour and Jan Adams took to the gym with determination (and a bit of trepidation).

In just over 90 minutes we completed 34.3k on the treadmill, 54.7k on the bike and 18.5k on the rowing machines.  That is a terrific total of 107.5k.

Past Captain Maureen was there to take some photos (because we were in a public area the photographs are somewhat limited) and Janette McCartney was there to give encouragement to her juniors - Jeanette even managed to fit in a 1k walk - after giving Gillian Kyle some advice on the bikes - see pictures.

We raised a fantastic £1,383 and everyone who made the effort to take part and also to donate are to be commended.

If anyone wishes to donate in recognition of the aches and pains that will follow tomorrow - please send a cheque (payable to RLCGA) to our Treasurer, Tracy Masterton.  Alternatively, donation boxes will be available at the first two competitions of the season.

Thanks to everyone who took part and who has donated to our funds.  The teams really do appreciate the support we received from our County.

KENNEDY SALVER DATE CHANGE

Unfortunately Hamilton Golf Club, due to unforeseen circumstances, are now no longer able to hold the Kennedy Salver on 23rd June as previously agreed. They have offered as an alternative, Tuesday 24th June, with tee off times at 9am and 2pm.

As it might be extremely difficult at this late stage to find another course for the 23rd, Lanarkshire County who are organising this years event have accepted their offer and the Kennedy Salver will now be played on Tuesday 24th June commencing at 9am.

Dear Member

Your Fixture Card for this season is now posted on our website. Hopefully the majority of members will enter competitions via the web-site. Competition entry links for the competitions will be completed by the end of February. They will be found on the top border and side links of the web-site.

If you have no access to the internet, please telephone the competition official to register your entry.

Once the closing date for entry to the relevant competition has passed, the Committee Member informs the host club of tee-times required and, as a result, any applications after that time can only be allocated to spare or cancelled times and priority cannot be given to handicap category. If there are not sufficient numbers for the competition, the ballot time will be reduced accordingly.

RENFREWSHIRE'S EILIDH AND ALYSON FINISH WELL IN PORTUGAL

Stirling Universities and RLCGA'S Eilidh Briggs faded from a joint third position at the start of play to finish tied seventh in the Portuguese women's open amateur golf championship over 72 holes at Montado Golf Resort, Costa Azul.
It was the toughest day of the four for scoring as Eilidh explained:
"There was about a two-club wind for most of the round and due to the way the course is positioned it was usually a tough cross wind.
The Kilmacolm GC member had rounds 73, 71, 71 and 77 for a four-over-par total of 292, the same aggregate as Annabel Dimmock (Wentworth) (78-70-70-74) who did so well on the recent Florida Orange Blossom Tour where she finished runner-up in "The Sally" and won the Jones-Doherty Challenge Cup match-play tournament.
Briggs, Dimmock and Ireland's Mary Doyle (78-73-72-69) finished seven shots behind the winner, Spain's Silvia Banon Ibanez.
Scottish champion Alyson McKechin (Elderslie) tied for 11th place on 293 with scores of 74, 74, 70 and 75.
