Tri-Am at Greenock Golf Club -- Clubhouse arrangements and Draw Amendments

Due to a funeral party using the clubhouse lounge and dining room on Tuesday morning (13th September) , we will be using the upstairs lounge for registration and catering. Please note that only tea, coffee, cakes and scones will be available in the morning with soup and snacks thereafter.

A number of withdrawals and later tee-times for the Greenock ladies, who are now attending the funeral, has required some amendments to be made to the draw. As further changes are possible, please keep checking the draw sheet.

CAMPBELL CLOCK HAS BEEN CANCELLED.

It with regret that the Committee have taken the difficult decision to cancel the 2016 Campbell Clock which was due to be played this Sunday at Whitecraigs Golf Club. Numbers have been dwindling over the last couple of days due to the girls having so many other commitments and there would have been more helpers than players! Hopefully we will have some winter activities to get them all together so if you have ANY girls at your club-with or without a handicap-please let a member of the Committee know.

MAUREEN AND MARILYN ARE 3RD IN THE COMMONWEALTH SPOONS AT EYEMOUTH GOLF CLUB

The Kemnay Golf Club pairing of Jane Whitehead and Nita Dervish-Uman headed a field of 84 players by a clear-cut margin to win the Commonwealth Spoons Final at Eyemouth Golf Club.

Jane and Nita, playing a foursomes stroke-play round off half their combined handicap - Whitehead (11.9), Dervish-Uman (21.3) - totalled 71.5

Runners-up on 73 were the Dalmahoy pairing of Mary Nicol (13.4) and Sheila Keddie (8.7).

Renfrewshire's Maureen Mitchell (18.8) and Marilyn Muir (10.5), (both members of Old Ranfurly) finished third on 74.

Karen Ballantyne (6.1) and Celia MacIntyre (17.2), members of Craigmillar Park Golf Club, came joint fourth on 75.5 with the Dunnikier Park pairing of Lori Gilfillan (9.7) and Lorna McKinlay (4.6).

Rounding off the leading six were Irene Gray (Musselburgh) (21) and Anne Marshall (Dunbar) (12.6) with a 76.

The numbers for the Campbell Clock and the Par 3 competition have suddenly dropped today and this is of great concern. There are now only 6 entries in the main competition and only 4 in the Par 3 event.

SCOTLAND LOSE TO AUSTRIA

The holders, Ireland,  came through a tough match against Belgium to win the European Seniors Team Championship at Sierra Golf Club, Poland today.
New team member, Mary Sheehy,  had to go to the 21st to secure her match and Ireland's win.
England took bronze medal position with a 3.5 to 1.5 win against Sweden.
Scotland lost to Austria by 3 matches to 2 in Flight B,  and finished the series in 12th position. Captain Gillian Kyle lost.

SCOTLAND SENIORS LOSE TO ITALY DESPITE CAPTAIN GILLIAN WINNING.

Scotland failed to qualify for the top flight of the European senior women's amateur team championship at Sierra Golf Club, Poland and today lost 3.5-1.5 to Italy in a Flight B match.

CAPTAIN GILLIAN WINS AGAINST POLAND IN EUROPEAN TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

Scotland beat the Czech Republic 4-1 in their opening match-play tie of the European senior women's amateur team championship Flight B competition at Sierra Golf Club in Poland.

West of Scotland's Alex Glennie and Mary Smith won the foursomes tie 2 and 1.
Fiona De Vries (2 and 1) and RLCGA's Gillian Kyle (3 and 1) won in the singles and there were halves for West of Scotland's Lesley Lloyd and Lorna McKinlay.

SCOTLAND SENIORS STEP UP THE MARK BUT ARE NOW IN FLIGHT B

The Scottish Seniors team stepped up the level of their individual performances in the second qualifying round today but still did not make the eight-strong championship match-play flight along with England (775), France (778), Ireland (781), Spain (781), Belgium (789), Switzerland (797), Sweden (798) and Netherlands (801).
The Scots are in Flight B with
Germany (804), Scotland (812), Italy (821), Austria (821), Iceland (843), Denmark (851), Czech Rep (861) and Poland (905).
The Scots play the Czech Republic on Thursday.

Aberdeen Ladies' Sheena Wood has been explaining why she is at home in the Granite City instead of playing, as selected, for Scotland in the European Senior Women's Amateur Team Championship at Sierra Golf Club, Petkowice in Poland this week.
"I had an accidental fall, injuring my left elbow and it has put me out of action for a few weeks. I am very disappointed to be missing the European team championship in Poland. However, I am already back working on short game and should be ready for British, Scottish Vets title and Senior Home Internationals," said Sheena who would have been one of the top Scots in Poland.

CAPTAIN GILLIAN TOP SCOT IN POLAND AFTER ROUND 1 IN EUROPEAN TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

None of the Scotland team in the European Senior Women's Amateur Team Championship was able to break 80 in the first qualifying round at Sierra Golf Club, Petkowice, Poland today.
Lorna McKinlay and Gillian Kyle were the top Scots, tied for 38th place, on the 81 mark.
Fiona de Vries had an 82 for a share of 49th place.
Mary Smith's 83 put in joint 58th position.
Lesley Loyd is tied for 72nd place after an 85 while Alex Glennie is joint last in a field of 92 with a score of 92. 
The best individual rounds in the first qualifying round were 74s
by Sheena McElroy (Ireland), Sylvie Van Molle (Belgium) and Nathalie Lamboult (France).
Scotland (412) are lying 10th after the first Q round. Only the top eight go into the championship flight match-play.

AUTUMN GREENSOMES - JUNE AND SHIRLEY WIN WITH 40 POINTS

It was a warm, bright day at Cathcart Castle Golf Club where 37 couples participated in the County Autumn Greensomes. The course was in great condition although the greens proved tricky at times.

June Lockhart and Shirley Back from Gleddoch were today's winners with a magnificent 40 stableford points.

Margaret Gray and Muriel Young (Old Ranfurly) Runners Up

In second place were Margaret Gray and Muriel Young (Old Ranfurly) with 39 stableford points.

Barbara Lyle (Whitecraigs) and Susan Reid (Kilmacolm) came third (with a better inward half over Anne Judge and Sally Smyth from Ranfurly Castle ) on 38 stableford points.

JENNIFER RANKINE WINS THE HAGGS CASTLE CHAMPIONSHIP

In the Haggs Castle Ladies Final, a repeat of the 2015 final, young Jennifer Rankine was defending her title against 2014 Champion and current Carradale GC Ladies Champion, Laura McGeachy. 
 The game was very tight and all square after 9 holes with both players having made the turn in 38 shots. Jennifer won the 10th after a concession by Laura. The play was even over the next few holes and Jennifer was two up after a straightforward par at the 15th. Jennifer had a birdie 3 at the 16th to retain the Championship by 3 and 2.

A silent auction took place at the Beetle drive in February at Ralston Golf Club with various donations.  
RLCGA President Jennifer Mack donated a  round  of golf at the Ladies Golf Club Troon. Vice captain June Lockhart had the winning bid at the  auction and on Sunday 21st August Committee member Shirley Back and Webmaster Carol Fell were both treated to a great day out. 
Shirley had her very own caddy - "Big Al" and it was an individual stableford that was played. The match was very tight with Jen and June both having 33 points and Shirley and Carol 32 points.
June was the overall winner !!

Jen presented June with her prize  (A Troon Open Marker) and in fact we all got prizes --Tees and Sweeties !
We then all enjoyed a delicious lunch after the event.
Thanks go to both Jen and June for their marvellous hospitality and great day out.    

JENNIFER RETAINS THE JUNIOR TITLE.

The Renfrewshire Junior Championship Final was played at Eastwood Golf Club this afternoon in lovely sunny conditions. It was a repeat of last year's final between Jennifer Rankine (Haggs Castle ) and Anna Mackenzie (East Renfrewshire) which Jennifer had won comfortably.

Today's match, however, was much closer-with Anna winning the 1st hole with a birdie! Jennifer responded winning the next 2 holes, also with birdies! A couple of poor holes by Anna gave Jennifer a comfortable lead of 3up after the 6th but she fought back to be 1 down after 8. Another birdie at the 9th, let Jennifer be 2 up at the turn, with a front 9 of 37. (1 over par). 
A lovely birdie putt from just off the green at the short 11th saw her lead extend to 3 again. But Anna won the 12th with a good up and down for par and the 13th was halved in birdie 4's. A loose 2nd shot by Anna at the 14th let Jennifer win the hole with a par. Jennifer overshot the green at the par 3 15th but recovered with a lovely chip  and sunk her putt for her par. Anna had played a lovely tee shot but just missed the birdie putt so now Jennifer was 3 up with 3 to play. 2 good drives at the 16th but adrenaline kicked in for Anna and she put her 2nd shot into the back left bunker. Jennifer played safely on to the green and 2 putts was enough to give her the Championship for the 3rd time.
Both girls were a credit to their clubs and their families. It was a lovely game to referee and watch. 

Congratulations Jennifer and hard luck Anna. You both played some lovely golf.

HOME PLAYER LIZ HALE TAKES THE GOLD MEDAL AT THE AUGUST MEDAL AT CALDWELL

Andy Murray - Gold Medal winner 

45 ladies played in today's medal at Caldwell Golf Club . It was a dry and reasonably warm day although the course was playing it's full length and maybe a bit more.

The CSS was 75 and "reduction only" (SSS 72). The adverse scoring was blamed by many on Andy Murray's epic Olympic Gold Medal win in the early hours of this morning ..... or could it simply have been a case of it wasn't wet and windy!!!!

Overall winner was Liz Hale (Caldwell) with a 73 net and Denise Cowan (Ranfurly Castle) won the scratch with a gross 84.

Former junior and newly re-joined county member, Emma Kennedy of Paisley, finished second in both the gross and Division 1 net competitions (Handicap 0 - 12) - well done Emma in your first county competition for some time.

NEWS RELEASE FROM SCOTTISH GOLF 
Scottish Golf has announced sides for the European Senior Ladies Team Championships later this month.
The European Senior Ladies’ Team Championship takes place at Sierra GC in Poland from 30 August – 3 September.
The top two players on the Scottish Golf Senior Women’s Orders of Merit have earned selection, along with four selectors’ picks.
The two automatic selections from the Senior Women’s Order of Merit were Sheena Wood (Aberdeen Ladies) and Alex Glennie from Kilmarnock Barassie, with Lorna Bennett captain of the team.
